THE
LONELY
MOUNTAIN
The Lonely Mountain is a towering solitary peak to the west of
Largoneth Castle. It is quite tall, and its proud summit often lies
shrouded in low-hanging clouds. However, in olden days, mariners had
named it Signal Mountain, for its odd glistening white peak reflected
the pale moonlight, providing an unmistakable landmark on unclouded
nights.
A
small mountain trail leaves the peak and descends to the south into the
small village of Largoneth below. The Long Road, running from the gates
of the castle, curves around the base of the mountain and winds its way
to the west. Low, smoky hills stretch out to the horizon to the west
and south. Vegetation becomes desolate about halfway up the
mountain, ending at the treeline with short, stunted trees. The bald
mountain face is
made of a shining substance; these peculiar rock formations
scattered across Signal Mount grab the light of the full moon and throw
it into the coastal valley below, clearly illuminating the impressive,
soaring castle and the nearby stretch of beach. Even the water of the
Great Sea beyond seems to dance excitedly in the beautifully pure
light, filling the air with a compelling tingle.
In
888 GUE, following the collapse of the Great Underground Empire,
Galepath temporarily secured the Lonely Mountain and its nearby
villages after securing the allegiance of Lingolf Garrison.
During the Great Monster Uprising, the majestic mountain had become a
landmark for both mariners and monsters alike.
