HELLHOUND

When you spot a hellhound, run in the other direction as fast as you can! Hellhounds are fast, fierce, and capable of devouring a human twelve times their size in three-and-a-half seconds with snapping fangs and jagged teeth (or could, if you could find a human that was 12 times the size of a hell hound). These large dog-like creatures normally inhabit burnt-out or enchanted woods. Fiercely territorial, they will rarely venture far beyond the boundaries which it has set for itself, even in pursuit of prey. Fashioned by the former Chief Implementor Belegur, hellhounds are purple and white and gray and red and gray, with two wide burning red eyes. These beasts are commonly sighted in the wild with motley fur standing out in all directions in thick mangy patches while whipping its shaggy tail back and forth and clacking its claws menacingly. It has been suggested that Hellhounds are very closely related to Poodles, for obvious reasons.

The meat of these dogs is known to make a tasty dish, and were a favorite meal of Dimwit Flathead, who served them to his thousands of guests during his kingship. The coarse black hair of hellhound is coveted by witches for use in various conjurations.

Hellhounds are known to inhabit forests near Egreth and Gurth, and they are kept by the Prevaricons and Veritassi, who keep them fed with unwanted visitors. When Festeron was transformed into Witchville by The Evil One during the Second Age of Magic, a poodle named Alexis became a ravenous hellhound.

The descedants of these fearsome canines finally became domesticated in late 1646 GUE. They are still quite ferocious and not to be trifled with, as they have been cross-bred with the best guard dogs from the Major Pie R. Squared Kennelry. The cross-breeding occurred as a result of a drop in sales of pure-bred Hellhounds following the circulation of a vicious rumor started by the Poodle Guild. The Guild spread word that pure Hellhounds could now become invisible and the only warning one had of an imminent attack was the sound of their bark. Of course, only orcs were so gullible as to believe that kind of nonsense, but sales dropped anyway and the cross-breeding program was instituted.

During the Great Monster Uprising of the Second Age of Magic, hellhounds were reported in the following regions: Fenshire, Flathead Mountains, Flathead Fjord, The Gray Mountains (including The Gray Mountains Asylum), The Coast Road in Greater BorpheeTidal FlatsMiznia Marshlands, Miznia Jungle, The Lost Castle of Y'Syska, Discipline BeachCrab Island, Kovalli Desert, Mithicus Mountains, Egreth Castle, The Glass MazeThe Lonely MountainThe Old Lingolf House, Largoneth Castle, and the G.U.E.
