CREEPING
BOGS
The Creeping Bogs are an underground marsh located south of the
subterranean
Shanbar, and west of the
Whispering Woods, where they line the eastern shore of the
Frozen
River. During the
Third Age of Magic, these bogs either conceived
magical
energies themselves, or, because they were so saturated with an
abundance of it, simply absorbed the diffused overflow. Either
way, these enchanted lands were a source of power for those involved in
the arcane. One of the countless ways that this bog brought aid, was
its ability to gradually recharge dead magical artifacts, such as burnt
out wands. Although 'gradual', by the end of an afternoon stroll one
might find an ancient staff completely restored to its former power
(not to mention the sound of harmonious
angels that accompanied the process).
However, the bogs are a dangerous place; one false step and the unprepared
traveller will find themselves swallowed in a sink hole. One of the
best methods of navigating this desolate landscape is by the use of a
walking stick. If the stick sunk, so would the careless
adventurer.
There
are many tree homes located throughout the bogs, of which one along the
banks of the Frozen River was occupied by the famous witch
Itah in the seventeenth century
GUE, who harnessed the magical energies for her witchcraft.
It is presumed that the Creeping Bogs lost their powers during the
Second Great Diffusion in 1647 GUE.
