Need to sharpen your sword? Or perhaps your lantern ran out of fuel? Well come on in, drink some rye and let Jack sharpen your blade and fill that lantern!
I want to play Return To Zork, but it won't run on my computer; and when I actualy got Return to run, it frooze up my computer, and when my computer restarted, RTZ restarted too, and frooze up my computer.
I think RtZ is too out-of-date to run on newer computers. The best I can get it is full graphic and playability, but the sound knocks out after the first line.
Hmm I think it worked for me in Windows 98, I played all the Zorks in 98.
Make sure its configured properly, then d/l VDMSound from sourceforge.net and try that for DOS sound emulation. Otherwise I have a DOS page with config file information you should look at. http://destiny-server.dns2go.com/dos.htm

JDS - try doing what basse said, but I don't think you have to reboot, just go to Command Prompt and cd \RTZ\RTZ.bat (I think thats the file - figure it out) and that should help.
Basse - right click on the icon and set compatability mode to '98 - or do the command prompt thing (try the compatability first though)
I told 'ya, my computer could be stuck, so I'm very carefull about just trying things  :-/.
I tried it on an older computer, but that didn't have enough memory (can you beleve it? Nearly 45 mb! Holy Shit!)...
I tried to start it through DOS, but the sound wouldn't work (and makes the whole program unable to start). So I'll try to download DAT's file, and if you don't hear from me in the next 48 hours, I'm very pissed at my computer  >:(...
COULD SOMEBODY PLEAZE TURN OF THE **** CENCORING? I EVEN CAN'T SAY SHIT! (thats *-*-*-*, it's cencored)

Sorry, can't help it, was frustrated, will never do it again (mother).
Can see the fun of it now; holy nuts?.. I mean, holy cow, yes, but HOLY NUTS?! lol...
Okay, this really annoys me. I can run the game and all if I just don't chose to run the memory buffer, or something, in the install. However, the vidoes expect the intro and the first time you see the Wizard in the Orb (Th-something?). Can anyone help me. I'm using XP.
Honestly, I would suggest consulting the Win Help system on running DOS games and see what it says. Half of the windows artitecture is dedicated to back-compatability.
Anyways you can check the compatibility guide found at http://www.ntcompatible.com/ it has WinXP, 2k, NT etc. for games and such, if its not listed its not tested, if its listed it works or doesn't and if it does usually people have submitted HOW they got it to run, so check there, its quite helpful.
Just remembered this, the problem I had was with my cd drive.
Check your read.me files, but I remember having to go to the Control Panel>System settings and shut off the read ahead ability on my cdrom. This cured the problem.
