Games... Gems in the Rough
I thought it would be cool, if we had a thread that we could share our gaming gems. So, please if theres ANY kind of game you've played that hasn't gotten recognition but you totally recommend someone play it, then by all means talk about it here! :-} I will list games as I think of them.
-Startopia-
To start off with, I still remember a recent game I played, called Startopia, I got it for $1 on ebay! The game plays similar to the Dungeon Keeper games, but is in space and imo is much better than DK.
-System Shock-
Another game is system shock, wow what an old game but wow its like the first action/adventure shooter and is totally awesome!
-Ghost Master-
Another game that is fun, but I have been waiting for an english version patch to come out is Ghost Master.
-Beyond Good & Evil-
By far one of the best games I have played recently and most people probably haven't heard of it or played it but the game is just amazing! Go and d/l a demo of it to know what I mean!

Re: Games... Gems in the Rough
I have a list of games that I love and not many others play:
TIM i.e. The Incredible Machine - I have not met another person who played this game, but it rocked. You basically had to solve puzzles using a set number of pieces that they gave you, each of which had a different use.
Civilization 2 - Yeah, this one is pretty well known however it is still not praised enough. What makes this game truly incredible is that not only is it a solid and fun game, but you can then copy the game and change EVERYTHING. The game even puts the rules into a text file and tells you how to edit them! All the units and such are also located in .gif's for editing as well. The expansions then allowed .bmps to be read and created an easy-to-learn scripting tool for scenarios. If anyone has not played the Lord of the Rings scenario for this I will give it to you, as it is the absolute best piece of work for this game ever.
Legend of Mana (Playstation) - When I first played this game, I took a look at the characters and thought "what the..?" I continued playing, though, because the game system is SO addictive and customizable. As I played, I began to understand the story more and more and it hit me what genious went into this game. Moreso than any Final Fantasy this game (along with the complex Chrono Series) shows off the brilliance that Square can create, provided they don't rehash mainstream themes with angsty teen characters.
I may think of more but that's it for now...

the incredible machine is a great game i miss that game i used to paly that around the same time as lemings 3d which was also good
Re: Games... Gems in the Rough
I loved TIM, was way hard in the later stages, I played two different versionsd of the game, the original and later a new updated one, both were fun!
I never really got into or was very interested in the Civ series... seems overly complicated and I just dont want to bother. :-}
I have heard a few things about Legend of Mana but never played it, a game thats also supposed to be really awesome is xenogears, another game i just didnt have a chance to play. :-{
Oh anyone try out the Dungeon Keeper games lol, im playing through DK2 right now, alsmost done with it.
Also, Magic Carpet is really fun but seriously old, around DK1 timeframe, 1995, or something like that.

Re: Games... Gems in the Rough
ive played DK2 and completed it a while back very good game didnt much like magic carpet
Re: Games... Gems in the Rough
Omikron is really good, I just reinstalled it two days ago so I can play it again soon. Nice action/adventure and is from Quantic Dream, they are making a new game called Farenheit, which looks like it should be really good.
Theres also 'Ripper' by Take Two Interactive, its from 1996 and is 6 discs, that game is really hard and pretty much impossible without a walkthrough but the game is really cool. You deck into cyberspace etc. and track down the ripper. You are a detective and to name one the game has a great cast, starting with Christopher Walkin.

Re: Games... Gems in the Rough
OK, found some more:
Heroes of Might and Magic - They are still making these but I have never found anyone else who likes them. My favorites have to be 2 & 4, just because 2 was awesome for its time and 4 is an example of the good type of evolution a series should take.
Tactics Ogre (PS1) - This game, which came out before Final Fantasy Tactics (also an awesome game), had the most politically engrossing storyline of any game up until FFT. It also allowed you to choose which path to take and had a ton of secret characters and classes. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a tactics-type game.
