The Riddle Game

Okay everyone, riddles are a fun part of Zork games, at least in text.  We keep talking about making some Zork games, graphical and text, and it'd be fun to put riddles in them.

So, for practice, how about we play the old riddle game?  You know, think up a riddle, ask it, and the person who answers it correctly first can make the next one.  If this is a dumb idea, please tell me so.  Or refrain from replying.  Anyway, I just thought it'd be fun.

"Wars are fought on a gemstone
Large as the world's grandest inn.
But the wars usually end
Before the tenth battle can begin."

This remindes me of the chapter (can't remember what it's called) in the Hobbit where Bilbo has a riddle game with Golum.

The answer to this riddle is the same as the answer to a different riddle in an Infocom game.  That should narrow down your answers a tad.
