Re: Best Zork Format For Future Games?
It's no secret that I'm a text adventure fan. I'd like to see plain text (like the original trilogy) or text with the Zork Zero style graphics. Full graphic games are also great, but the one style I did not like was the split-screen style of Beyond Zork. I really hated that interface.

Re: The New Message Board
I've never done Letterboxing. In fact, I had never heard of it before your post. So I looked at letterboxing.org to check it out. It looks like fun and very similar to geocaching. I suppose, depending on the person hiding the geocache or the letterbox, the find can require a considerable amount of b...

Re: The New Message Board
Hey Zorket, you and I have pretty similar interests! I put together a murder mystery game for a party for my daughter a few years ago. It had some multi-level puzzles in it that I was very proud of. One in particular went like this: There is a telescope set up in a corner of the room. In a nearby de...

Re: The New Message Board
The only hard part would be getting the book spines to look nice and find a way to place the linkable text on it so it looks classy. This is not technologically difficult, but could be a bit time consuming if you want to make really cool-looking books. Since the book's spine is all that's really vi...

Re: The New Message Board
I guess I completely misunderstood what you were saying. Sorry about that. I agree that the real-time 3D would be much too complicated. (Actually, it's very easy to implement, but too complicated for the user.) However, image-mapping isn't complicated at all. The whole thing is just one 2D graphic a...

Re: The New Message Board
Because it looks incredibly dated. Ugh, it's like Microsoft Bob all over again. If you're going to go that route (and I don't think you should) you might as well use Flash. You just hate everything, don't you? In this case, all Flash would do is take something simple and make it heavier, slower and...

Re: The Zork Library in real-time 3D
It ought to work with dial-up, but it probably takes too long to load the image files. First of all, did you download and install Java 6 and Java 3D as instructed on the WebWorld entry page? If so, you have to install Java 6 first, and then Java 3D after Java 6 has been installed. Java also has to b...

Re: The New Message Board
The 3D library I made looks like this: http://home.comcast.net/~pdrallos131681/Images/zlib.jpg but I wouldn't recommend it for a several reasons. First, it requires visitors to have Java 6 and Java 3D installed on their computers. So people couldn't view your site until after they downloaded and ins...

Re: The New Message Board
Thats pretty close. The theme for the forum is pretty easy and doesn't require much of a redesign Do your mean that the forum theme would be very similar to how it looks now? Because there is, essentially, no theme right now. Or do you mean that you have a forum design mostly worked out, but we hav...

Re: The New Message Board
The purpose of moving content into the forum is simple, I will always have a forum for TZL and placing the TZL content into threads where I can easily link/add files makes a lot of sense. Furthermore doing a theme for the forum would be far less work than redesigning the site and then themeing the ...

Another question: If I send someone a private message, will they be alerted via their email that they have a message waiting?

Re: The New Message Board
Would anyone be terribly distraught if i took the easy route and combined the TZL site into the forum? It would make a forum theme much easier than a site redesign. That and it would not take much time to organize the files etc. into the forum. I don't understand what you mean. My first impression ...
