MGI SoftDVD MAX v4.0

MGI SoftDVD MAX lets you watch and listen to your favorite DVD movies, MPEG videos, Video CDs (VCD), *.ac3, *.mp3 and unencrypted *.vob files. It's versatile, the audio and video quality is excellent, and best of all it's easy to use. This Online Help system explains all of the functions, what each Control Button does, and how to adjust the settings in the Properties dialog. You can control every aspect of MGI SoftDVD MAX via mouse or Hot Keys. Some releases of MGI SoftDVD MAX v4.0 may provide a built-in Dolby Headphone feature which provides lifelike, simulated 5.1 channel audio through standard stereo headphones.

MGI SoftDVD MAX v4.0 supports Video CD (VCD) and Karaoke. The following formats are also supported: Red Book Audio, White Book, Green Book, Orange Book, Yellow Book, CDI, and PhotoCD, Single Layer DVD, Dual layer DVD, Dual sided DVD, CD-R, CD-ROM XA.

The MGI SoftDVD MAX user interface consists of three sections: Viewer, Control Panel, and Properties dialog.

Where DVD movies, MPEG videos, VCD, and Karaoke lyrics are displayed.

Control Panel

Powerful controls for every function.

Special Note about DVDs

There are several methods used to create DVDs. As a result, some functions, such as opening the different menus in a DVD movie may not work depending on where you are in the movie. If this happens, the Viewer will display a warning using an exclamation point (!) for a few seconds.

Adjust all standard settings to suit your viewing and listening tastes.

Control Buttons

Dolby Headphone – Simulates 5.1 channel, speaker-based surround sound through conventional headphones. Toggle between three available filters (also disables Audio Mode selection). Not available in all releases of SoftDVD MAX v4.0.

Toggle Audio Mode - Toggle between Stereo, 3D, and Surround Sound (also disables Dolby Headphone mode, if available).

Note: Dolby Digital and Dolby Surround support the S/PDIF standard. MPEG audio formats and LPCM may not be supported by your S/PDIF device. If available, the Dolby Headphone setting simulates 5.1 channel Dolby Surround but requires only standard stereo headphones.

Volume - Adjusts the volume. Click & drag the slider up to increase volume; down to decrease volume.

Mute - Turns audio on and off.

Open - Select and load an MPEG video.

Viewing Angle* - (DVD mode only) Changes the viewing angle. Many movies are filmed with several cameras. DVD authoring allows scenes using multiple camera angles to be viewed by MGI SoftDVD MAX.

Subtitles* - (DVD mode only) Changes the subtitle selection.

Karaoke* - Changes the Karaoke audio channel. This button is optional and may not be present on all versions. If present, there are 4 settings: Vocals Off, Vocals 1, Vocals 2, Both Vocals (for duets).

Configure - Opens the MGI SoftDVD MAX Properties dialog.

Select Menu* - (DVD mode only) Allows access to the title menu and other DVD menus.

Audio Language* - (DVD mode only) Changes the audio language.

Search* - (DVD mode only) Search by "Title", "Chapter" or "Time".

Web Link – Launches a DVD Web site portal where you can purchase your favorite DVDs.

Return - (VCD mode only)

Hi Res/Low Res - (VCD mode only) Toggle between High Resolution and Low Resolution in a still frame.

Previous Chapter - (DVD mode only) Skips to the previous chapter.

Fast Reverse** - Plays in fast reverse mode.

Pause - Turns Pause on and off.

Stop - Stops playback.

Play - At a DVD menu, plays the current selection. Otherwise plays the current DVD, VCD, or MPEG file.

Fast Forward** - Plays in fast forward mode.

Next Chapter - Skips to the next chapter.

Repeat* - (DVD mode only) Sets repeat mode to "Repeat Off", "Chapter Repeat", "Chapter Shuffle", "Title Repeat", "Title Shuffle" or "Disc Repeat". Not available in all configurations.

Eject - Opens and closes the DVD drive.

Help - Displays this online help file. When the Help button is clicked, whatever is playing will be paused automatically. Click the Pause button to restart the movie or video.

Iconize - Shrinks the MGI SoftDVD MAX Control Panel to an icon.

Close - Closes MGI SoftDVD MAX.

* Cycle through selection with each click of the button. Each selection is displayed in the MGI SoftDVD MAX control. Simply stop at the desired selection to activate it.

** Allows fast reverse and fast forward in 2x, 4x and 8x speed. Press button once for 2x, twice for 4x and three times for 8x speed. Some configurations may have only a single speed.

Hot Keys

F1 - Displays this file.

F4 - (non-US versions) Turns audio on and off.

F7 - (DVD mode and non-US versions) Skips to previous chapter.

F8 - (non-US versions) Skips to next chapter.

F11 - (non-US versions only) Turns down the volume.

F12 - (non-US versions only) Turns up the volume.

Backspace - (DVD mode only) Return to DVD playback from a menu.

Backspace + Return - (VCD mode only) From VCD menu.

Enter - At a DVD menu, plays the current selection. Otherwise plays the current DVD or MPEG file.

Up Arrow - (DVD mode only) At a DVD menu, moves the menu selection up.

Down Arrow - (DVD mode only) At a DVD menu, moves the menu selection down.

Right Arrow - (DVD mode only) At a DVD menu, moves the menu selection right.

Left Arrow - (DVD mode only) When at a DVD menu, moves the menu selection left.

Numeric keys - At a DVD menu or VCD mode, selects the corresponding menu item or next/previous chapter. Press the Enter key to activate the menu item.

- (US versions only) Turns down the volume. (DVD mode only) Shift key is optional.

+ (US versions only) Turns up the volume. (DVD mode only) Shift key is optional.

\ (US versions only) Turns audio on and off.

< (US versions only) Skips to previous chapter. (DVD mode only) Shift key is optional.

> (US versions only) Skips to next chapter. Shift key is optional.

A - Toggles between available audio modes: stereo, surround, and 3D audio.

B - Fast Reverse. Runs a DVD backwards at high speed for visual searching.

C - Opens the configuration dialog.

E - Ejects the disk.

F - Fast Forward. Runs a DVD forward at high speed for visual searching.

H - (DVD mode only) Search by "Title", "Chapter" or "Time".

I - Shrinks the DVD control to an icon.

K - (DVD mode only) Changes the Karaoke audio channel. This feature is not available on all versions.

L - (DVD mode only) Changes the audio language.

M - (DVD mode only) Allows access to the title menu and other DVD and VCD menus.

O - (MPEG mode only) Opens and plays an MPEG file.

P - Turns Pause on and off.

Q - (VCD mode only) Toggles between High Resolution and Low Resolution in a still frame.

R - (DVD mode only) Sets Repeat mode.

S - Stops playback.

T - (DVD mode only) Activates the Root menu if one is available.

U - (DVD mode only) Change the subtitle selection.

X - Closes MGI SoftDVD Max.
