Question from a newbie
Is there anywhere I can get a list of all possible commands for Zork I?

Re: Question from a newbie
probably not, I have never seen anyone try and put them all in a list.
Is there any specific problem your encountering?

Re: Question from a newbie
Also, some of the words might give away hints (there are two words I can think of for Zork I).
Through out most of the game, you only need a dozen or so words.
Your basic directions (N,NE,E,SE,S,SW,W,NW,Up,Down)
Examine
Climb
Take
Drop
Open
Close
Put
Kill [Character] With [Weapon]
Turn [On/Off]
You can try other words which may or may not really do anything (Jump, Scream, Cough, Sit, Sleep, ...)

Yeah, its a huge list, I really don't know, but you can type anything and you'll know afterwards if its useable or not.
Re: Question from a newbie
Technically, this isn't really the answer to your question, but it is close.
The original Zork games were written in a language developed by Infocom called ZIL. I think. Anyway, that language, when compiled produced smething called Z-code which could be run on a Z-Machine interpreter. But I don't think many people use ZIL anymore. However, another language and compiler called Inform was developed which also generates the same type of Z-code that the Infocom games use.
The Inform compiler uses several 'libraries' during code compilation. One of them is called Grammar.h.
The Grammar library has all of the standard verbs defined in it. You can browse this section of the Grammar library here:
http://www.inform-fiction.org/source/li ... r_2_4.html
If this link doesn't work for some reason, you can get to it this way:
Go to the Inform website at http://www.inform-fiction.org/
click on 'Support', then 'Source', then 'Library",
then 'Browse Grammar', and finally 'World model verbs.'
There you will find a pretty big list of most verbs.

Re: Question from a newbie
That is basically all you should need from what I glanced at.
However, in Zork, the parsers a little more advanced, and you don't need to use joined words (i.e. AttackWith is 'attack with' - two words)
